Blue Cat does a Yarn Crawl

Standard

Blue Cat likes yarn. So when he heard that there was a “yarn crawl” going on in Colorado, he was more than excited. He was all in to do this thing.

So what is a yarn crawl? It’s where shops that sell yarn and other fiber-craft tools and materials have a time where they have special displays, sales, and contests. The Yarn Along the Rockies yarn crawl had 23 shops participate this year, from Boulder in the north to Colorado Springs in the south. And it was a lot of fun.

Blue Cat’s knitting friends usually don’t take him along (he’s getting a little big for the current crop of purses), but he did get to see some of the crawl first-hand:

But the coolest thing was that each shop gave out a button with their shop name on it. The buttons could be put on a cloth bag that had all the shops on it, or they could be worn as a badge of accomplishment. Here’s Blue Cat with his favorite – it has a cute cat on it (and everyone likes cute cats).

The yarn crawl was a lot of fun, and everyone had a good time. Blue Cat is looking forward to next year’s, and would love to hear about your yarn crawl experiences.

Blue Cat has a Great Christmas

Standard

Blue Cat had a great Christmas. While others got games and clothes and candy and books, Blue Cat got a new brother. And what’s more important during the holidays than family?

The Cat Family – Green Cat, Brown Cat, and Blue Cat

Blue Cat’s creator made Green Cat for her 2-year-old niece. He’s of medium size and is crocheted from worsted-weight acrylic yarn (that inexpensive but durable Red Heart kind). Since his new owner is only 2, Green Cat had to be virtually indestructible. Blue Cat thinks he’s some kind of super-hero…

How was your Christmas? Blue Cat hopes it was wonderful, and he wishes everyone a very Happy New Year.

Blue Cat Voted – How About You?

Blue Cat’s Party

Blue Cat took advantage of early voting to cast his ballot in the election – the crowds at the polls really take a toll on him since he’s so short. That’s planning ahead – and realizing your own limitations and strengths. By voting early, Blue Cat didn’t get crushed, and he got a lot of attention, especially from the nice ladies at the DMV who seemed to appreciate his embracing of crochet.

If you haven’t voted yet, you should plan on doing so on Tuesday. Blue Cat leaves the choice of candidates to you, but he voted for the “fiber and garden” party himself.

Blue Cat says that voting is cool. Be cool like Blue Cat, and leave him a comment after you vote. Let him know how you feel about participating in the democracy of the United States, and your hopes for the future.

Blue Cat Searches for His Roots

Standard

Blue Cat, like many of us, wants to learn about his roots. Most of us have birth certificates, genealogy sites, and relatives to ask – but not Blue Cat. He’s more interested in fiber content and dye lots. Genealogy is tough when you’re crocheted…

20121006-214604.jpgLuckily for Blue Cat, there are pattern books and yarn wrappers to examine – and lots of distant relatives at his local Joann’s. He found out enough to know that he comes from a long line of useful individuals, and although his ancestors were slightly twisted, some of them are quite natural, and there’s more to his background than just fluff.

What’s interesting about your lineage?
